ALASKAN RATTLE

The sound of rattles is a conduit to the super-natural world. Shamans use rattles in curing the sick and seeking assistance from spirit helpers. Although they are musical instruments, their use always implies the presence of supernatural powers. Eagles are a symbol of power, prestige, peace and friendship. The form of this rattle may have been influenced by the Russian Imperial emblem.
